I have previously worked on a 'Hybrid Project' where we were assigned to incorporate a 3D background with a 2D character. My idea was of a doodle that comes to life and begins exploring the items that are on the table. Here is the preparation work that I did which includes the 3D modelling and planning out the scene.
Once I had made all of the 3D assets I put them together on top of a table, as well as that I added walls and floor to put the scene together.
